For the first time in four years, adult-only restaurant visits increased by 1 percent in 2012, according to research firm The NPD Group. The number of adults who visited restaurants with their kids remained flat for the second year in a row, which is better than the previous three years of declines. This doesn’t mean that there aren’t opportunities within the family-friendly category. One interesting data point from the study found that parties with kids contributed $84 billion and 15 billion visits to the industry in 2012; and within the hamburger category alone accounted for $22 billion and 5 billion visits.
